LIFE - (A three act play)

Life is strange, it will fake us out,
Just when we figure what it's all about.
The script is written in our heads,
To be discarded each time it's read.

ACT I
Through childhood and uncertain teens,
Not on top or below, but somewhere between.
Our elders laid out the future to be,
And we followed each word so carefully.

ACT II
Yes, we married and followed each given cue,
Playing our parts as directed to.
Hence, we wrote and edited our children's parts,
Never asking what was in their own hearts.

ACT III
Now, this is life - though not as it was,
Our children are smarter -  much smarter because,
Now they're writing their own rolls, good or bad,
As we just watch and wish that we had.
